When selling your home, you should make it look like it is out of a magazine and no one lives there. I know this can be difficult when you have pets, kids or maybe a demanding job, but it will help your home sell quicker and for a higher price.
Here are some free or inexpensive ideas to help you reach that goal:
- Clean – If you can only get to one item, this is the one you should do. Do a deep cleaning from top to bottom. I can't tell you how many homes I've walked in and they are dusty and the windows are dirty. This may take some time and effort, but this is FREE! Something that could cost some money would be steam cleaning the carpets or hiring a professional cleaning company, it could be a nice touch.
- Depersonalize and Declutter – Your kids, pets and family are fabulous but having pictures of them all over the house doesn't help the buyers picture themselves in your home. Clear off flat surfaces, corners of rooms and your fridge of clutter.
- Paint – If your home is already a neutral color, maybe do some patch work and touch up paint. If you have bright and/or dated colors or wallpaper, maybe consider painting a neutral color. Another idea for paint would be sprucing up the front door with a pop of color.
- Curb Appeal – keep the leaves raked, the lawn mowed and the gardens looking fresh. Curb appeal is so important. If need be, power wash the exterior of the home. Again, this will take time but is essentially FREE! If you want to go the extra mile, consider changing light fixtures if they are broken or dated.
Four easy, cost-effective steps when you are preparing to sell your home. They may not seem like much, but these steps will go a long way in helping Buyers fall in love with your home.
