 Meyer's RV Superstores makes Rt. 22 in West Hanover Twp. an RV destination
RSR REALTORS® brokers site near the competition for NY-based business' first PA store

The just-opened Meyer's RV Superstores in West Hanover Township -- less than one mile from a major competitor -- will make Route 22 a destination for buyers in the market for the freedom, cost savings, and memories of RV travel.

Located at 7301 Allentown Boulevard, the New York-based Meyer's RV Superstores, owned by Mark Meyer, worked with RSR, REALTORS®'s CEO Jim Koury in buying the land for the company's first Pennsylvania store.

 "I don't mind being near other dealers," said Meyer. "In fact, I prefer it. I believe the competition not only makes you better but also drives more people to the area to shop."

  • The West Hanover location is Meyer's sixth store and is open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays; and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

Meyer expects to employ a startup crew of 15 to 20 people at the new store. The site will offer sales, service, and parts and accessories, with rental possibilities in the future. In Pennsylvania, the RV industry contributed 4,683 direct jobs and $726.5 million in economic impact, according to 2017 figures from RVIA.

Meyer said Central Pennsylvania is hosting his first Pennsylvania store because he and senior manager Mark Calzone know the market from past years as a sponsor of RV shows in Hershey and Harrisburg. With RSR's "unbelievable" help, Meyer said he gained additional insights into the region's commercial prospects.

"RSR was top-notch to work with, and they had some great depth in the community to help us get started," he said.

In 2004, Meyer sold his original RV business, started by his father in 1967, to Camping World. As the RV industry boomed, with shipments rising from 285,749 nationwide in 2012 to 504,600 by 2016, he reassembled his team with Calzone, who was part of the original Meyer's Campers business.

"Because I had only worked in the RV business, I didn't know what I was missing until I got out of it," Meyer said. "Some of the top executives in the industry had started their careers with us, and they were driving the RV boom. I realized I could bring the same skills, and maybe more, to the wave, and I wanted to be part of it."

The West Hanover Township site occupies a growth corridor offering high visibility, convenient access, and comprehensive amenities, Koury said.

"Allentown Boulevard is booming," Koury said. "Customers curious about all the advantages of RVs can now explore an array of choices just minutes from Harrisburg and Hershey. They can toast their new find at a nearby restaurant, and shop for camping clothing and gear at outlets and retail stores. If this is a destination visit, they can stay overnight at a hotel along the corridor and keep exploring the region's rich culture."

And as Meyer noted, customers who drive off the lot can point their new RVs toward nearby camping grounds or state parks, "for the full RV experience from Day One."

Even accounting for RV payments and fuel, RV vacations save families from 8 percent to 64 percent over other forms of vacation travel, according to a June 2018 study from RVIA and Go RVing. While savings matter, Meyer strives to deliver a customized experience and assure families "the freedom to vacation whenever they have time."

"It doesn't matter if it's weekend, a week, or a month -- an RV is the only flexible and affordable way to travel," he said. "With all of the different uses today, from tailgating to race tracks to dog shows, RVing is a lifestyle. It's fun that pays you back in savings, but nothing can match the memories you create. Our goal is to create a network of dealerships that RV customers will recognize as a great place to do business."

Wide range of potential uses for the 47,000-square foot flex building in growing commercial corridor

The former Sports City building on Linglestown Road in Lower Paxton Township is back on the market, presenting a golden opportunity for investors interested in either leasing to sports clubs or using the flex building for a variety of commercial applications.
